Flood aware video

It's not often that I get to star in a video... and this is no exception.


I recently got involved in producing a video for the Environment Agency to raise flood awareness. It's all about how quickly floods can happen and how you need to be prepared.

Can you spot me in the video? More importantly are you prepared for flooding... do you know if your home or work is at risk and what you would do in a flood situation?

Contagion

I watched the film Contagion last night. IMDB only gives it 7.1 but I'd give it more, it's a great movie. The film is all about a new infection similar to Sars or H1N1, except it's a lot more aggressive (similar to Spanish Flu).

 Having spent the morning sneezing on my keyboard it definately has got me thinking about how easily a new disease could be spread. In fact, I was just coughing and can now see little spots of flem on my monitor. Grim indeed, should have covered my mouth really but it took me by surprise.

Indeed in our little office, which can be a bit nippy at times, we regularly see a domino effect where one person gets a cold, then someone else, etc, until it's done the rounds in the office.

It's terrifying to think about the possibility of such a disease spread, it's real, it's possible, and in the best case scenario millions die, in the worst most of us do... it's depressing. So I think instead I'm going to focus on the two more serious messages contained within the film Contagion.


Issue 1: Is Gwyneth Paltrow a disease ridden whore who'll kill us all?

Answer concluded by the film Contagion = YES. No seriously, watch the film - her character is a transnational tramp who slags about and kills us all. Seriously, it's hilarious. I actually wonder if they created the film just to take the piss out of Paltrow? The autopsy scene is the best, the cinema audience actually cheered when they cut her head open!!!

Issue 2: Is Matt Damon a hot fatty?

Answer conclucded by the film Contagion = YES. Matt Damon is a caring and loving dad, driven to eat his feelings by his bitch wife Gwyneth Paltrow. Clearly Damon has bulked up for the film, and not in the way most actors bulk up for an action-role, seriously the boy has eaten a lot of pizza. Was it nessasary? Probably yes, if he was his usual sexy-self you'd have sympathised less for him. His lardiness helps you understand why he would have scrapped the barrel and settled for Paltrow, who's constantly jetsetting off to foreign climbs to have sex with horses and eat raw dog meat. The amazing thing is, that even though Damon has gained ALOT of puppy fat, he's still adorably hot.

So the most important message of the film is: Look after yourself or Gwyneth Paltrow will give you a disease and you'll never get a girl/boyfriend (unless you're Matt Damon). 

But seriously, watch the film - it's good!

• Perhaps you could get a Tron style watch?
•  Get some Tron accessories for your Xbox.
• Tron headphones.
• Have a look on ebay, maybe you'll find something good based on Tron or try searching for cyberpunk accessories.
• Cover yourself in EL wire - this stuff is cool, it's like those neon tubes you break except battery operated and looks soo much better than LED rope lights. 

Why not tron up your car with EL wire too?

Don't forget to complete the look you should mod your computer too (this will really make girls think you're cool... not!)

Wii love new technology - help me obi wan kinobe, you're my only hope

Everyone loves the Wii (even though Nintendo last reported a loss - but they can afford considering the oodles of profit they were earning before). And PS3 and Xbox want a piece of the action with their various offerings. Today Microsoft's XBox "Kinect" goes on sale, and unlike the PS3 and Wii offering it's completely hand's free. I can't wait to have a play with this - from an interface point of view it's quite exciting. We're basically heading towards full on Minority Report - and let's face it, everyone wants to live the Minority Report dream.

I always get very excited about the tools that let us interact with computers because it brings about new possibilites. And as a geek I like looking at the tech in sci-fi films and TV that has or is coming true.  Like Star Trek Next Generation style touch screens - great for new games like "Angry birds" or 3G web-surfing. Rubbish for making calls, text-typing (I can write a full message with my Sony Erricsson without looking, impossible with my IPhone4) and rubbish for games like "Tetris" which lends itself so well to buttons but not to our stubby digits. (And if you're a fan of old style Star Trek we've had flip phones for ever! May they not live long or prosper!)

What's next - well 3D obviously. Avatar brought 3D to the forefront (although there were 3D cinema films before like the brilliant Coraline) - thankyou mr Cameron. It won't be long until TV's / consoles are 3D and don't require glasses. Nintendo have already acchieved this with the new 3D-DS. And these 3D-TV's will be delivered via Web-TV in glorious super HD. HOORAH!


So what's next? Well if we look backwards at what we might dream of - how about the Star Wars 3D holograms. We're not quite yet but the technology is starting to exist.In fact holograms are already being used (albeit in a crude form to what I hope the future will hold) in concerts e.g. Gorillas.

Anyway - I'm off to eat some sandwiches but I'm pretty excited about the future!

Looking forward to the Walking with Dinosaurs movie

Everybody loves dinosaurs - and Walking with Dinosaurs brings back fond teenage memories for me. So I'm very pleased to hear they are making a movie of it.

Sometimes they make a film that you've heard nothing about and yet you know it's going to be one of the best films of the year. I saw this advertised at the cinema, with no sound, and I'm obsessed:

28 Weeks Later

I saw 28 weeks later last night, sequel to one of my favourite films of all time 28 days later and it was surprisingly rather good! Perhaps it would have been more interesting if it had starred Robbie Coletrain as I kept thinking and not Robert Carlile... can't spell.

Would definately suggest seeing it, although it is one of those movies that leaves you thinking at the end. It's just a little too real, actually that's great, but it does mean I end up planning what I would do in case of Zombie invasion.
